In more recent years, there have been a slew of new Christmas movies released that have become just as well loved as the classics, if not more so. Santa Claus the movie, ELF, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Home Alone are just a few of the more recent favorites. In addition, some of the cable channels, such as The Hallmark Channel and The Disney Channel, release new original movies every year during the holiday season.??

Although they are not considered Christmas movies per se, the classic animated holiday cartoons are always a hit with both children and adults.?Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, A Year Without a Santa Claus, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and A Charlie Brown Christmas are timeless classics. There are also a few animated movies, such as The Polar Express that promise to be favorites for a long time to come.???

Christmas movies are a fantastic way to spend time with your family during the holidays.?It doesn’t matter how ancient you are, unless you are the Scrooge or the Grinch, you are nearly guaranteed to find a favorite.

Summer Blockbuster Movies 2008

Every summer Hollywood lets loose with all the excellent stuff they’ve been holding back all year long. For months they have been teasing you with sneak peeks and trailers building up a level of excitement and anticipation the like of which have not been since last summer.

I kinda looked forward to this summer, as the promise of getting to see Speed Racer or my childhood hero, Indiana Jones on the silver screen is about one of three things that can really lure me out of my house (fire and the next Dresden Files book are the others). Unfortunately, I blinked and missed Speed Racer, and it’s too hot outside to leave my climate controlled home to see Indy. That’s what HBO is for. And trust me, the way they loop a movie and play it to death, there will be more than ample opportunity to see them both. Twice.

But this year, Hollywood thinks I was in a severe car crash and now have to eat blended mashed potatoes through a straw while watching the high drama and suspense of the Wonder Pets on Nick Jr.

Wasn’t there a Hulk movie out not but just a couple of years ago? I remember the gigantic Hulk statue inside Madam Tussaud’s and taking a picture of my husband next to it. And right me if I am incorrect or out of line here, but didn’t it also **** so terrible that we all left the theater with a severe case of wind burn?

I can’t seem to recall who the huge villain was in that movie, who the writers and producers thought we wanted to see the Hulk smash-oh, wait a minute, I do remember. It was a dog. That’s right, they injected not one, or two, but three dogs with green juice and set them after the Hulk. They were large breed dogs and honestly mean, they did bark a lot prior to being juiced up by Nick Nolte. Hahaha! OMG that movie was dreadful. No, really, it was. If I want to see a guy smack a dog around, and I DON’T, I can watch one of Animal Planet’s dog rescue shows.

And, not for nothing, the Hulk as a character was really unbelievable. I don’t mean the acting, cause, lets face it, Lou Ferrigno will always own that role. I’m, talking about that dreadful animation. It was like a bunch of guys who dropped out of DeVry did it on a lap top they stole from some high school out in the mid west. How hard can decent animation be? A long time ago when Jurassic Park came out the whole world thought they were looking at dinosaurs, and that was with what we would now consider ancient, aka “cheap,” special effects.

There was this one part of the movie, I reckon it was about an hour and a half long, where the Hulk was in a secret army base in Utah and then just started running and jumping and smashing. He ruined tanks and planes and bombs and managed to skip right over school buses and flower beds. Then he saw the like interest, Betty, and calmed down and the movie finished. It was right before the part where he beat up three dogs. Before that were the opening credits.

So now this new Hulk movie is out, and everyone is going on about how fantastic it’s gonna be. Hello! The Hulk movie is not really about the Hulk. It’s just a really cheap way to prep movie goers for the Avengers movie that is scheduled to come out in a few years.

And who else is sick and tired of people saying “Oh, don’t you just like Ed Norton?” Ummm, the guy from the Honeymooners? That was my first reaction. I had no thought who he was. As it turns out, he was that guy opposite Brad Pitt in Fight Club. Ironic that the movie poster for Fight Club was a bar of soap and Brad Pitt looked like he needed to be hit with a pressure washer. I know that’s not what the soap “represented” but Brad did look really dirty. mmmmm.

Ed Norton. Indeed. Why would you take that name if you had the choice of all of the names that ever were or could be. At least use some **** or talented guy’s name! Or even take a page out of Marilynn Manson’s book for Pete’s sake, combine two perfectly excellent celebrity names into one clean original one. If I ever grow up to be a Hollywood movie star you can bet I’m not gonna call myself Rosie O’Donnel or Godzilla. But Rosie Rodan, that has promise.

I also really wanted to see the new Batman movie too, Dark Knight, but then poor Heath Ledger had to go and die. I cried when I heard. I’ll miss him, but not for nothing, this movie was so really gonna rock. It was gonna be Justin Bale’s huge break, no more would he be “that guy from American Psycho,” but rather, the Batman! Sadly, between the early reviews and news articles, and months of sneak peaks and on-line flamers, the talk of a posthumous Oscar, the latest reviews and newest commercials… I’m board of it already, and the movie is still like a month away from being released. Makes me want to see that Dragonball movie coming out next year. James Marsters is gonna play the role of Piccolo. Did anyone else just feel that breeze?

But here’s the worst insult of all. Someone let M. Night Shyamalan make another movie. Terrible people, Terrible! When are they gonna learn? All his movies, all, ever single last one – ALL have a twist ending that Stevie Wonder can see coming. The tales are at best “alright,” at least three characters have to whisper everything they say, and not a single film he’s ever made is worth the gas it would take to drive to the theater. Don’t believe me, here’s what critics have to say about his new movie – it has a “R” rating. Oooooo. That’s the best thing so far. An “R” rating. So what. Wanna impress me? How about this movie make a lick of sense! Keep me in my seat, at the very least keep me awake.

I can’t control myself any longer, spoiler alert – and I use the word “spoiler” very, very loosely.

Here’s the thing, if trees were ever going to develop some sort of chemical warfare that singled out and killed humans:

1. NY City would be about the safest place you could be and not where the movie takes place. The Sahara desert would be the second safest place. The Amazon River Basin and Yellowstone National Park would be killing fields, not Manhattan. 2. Maybe one plant, or even hell let’s go crazy, one entire species of plant could develop such a power, but all plants everywhere all at once, no, not gonna happen. The animation in the Hulk is more believable.

So, what have we learned about Hollywood’s summer blockbuster movies? With the price of gas and the heat, I’m advising that everyone get Netflicks and let the downloading start. You can do it from the safety of you’re own climate controlled environment, pause the movie, use your own toilet, and delight in a snack you didn’t have sell a kidney on E-Bay to be able to afford. That’s what I plot on doing. Provided of course no one sets my house on fire while I’m reading the next Dresden Files book. Can’t wait for book 11 to hit the shelves!

Full Anime Movies

What is anime? It is a Japanese animation that uses visual styles. Full anime movies are just like a normal movie in that they tell a tale and have a main theme. But they are animated and they usually have very complex tales. They are known for having futuristic themes which are often mature. The number of characters is usually several and the visual style is highly emphasized.

The list of full anime movies is quite extensive. There are even rare and hard to find anime. Even though everyone may not have heard of anime the oldest one known to exist was made in 1917. It is only a two minute clip; nonetheless it is considered the first one to have been screened.

Called “An Obtuse Sword” this is the oldest one known to be in existence. Made as humorous, this anime tells the tale of a samurai warrior who through trickery buys a dull sword. The samurai tries to attack people he passes on the street to see if the sword is really dull. The tables are turned as the people living in the town retaliate and knock the samurai down.

The expansion of anime from Japan to other markets did not really start until the 1960s. During the 1980s and 1990s anime turned into a major export as the full anime movies became quite well loved. According to the Japan External Trade Organization anime in the U.S. is worth $4.35 billion. The world likes movies and anime is very well loved when it comes to a different twist on the typical movie.

One of the best full anime movies for the family is Spirited Away. Available in English, French and Japanese this movie is rated PG. The tale revolves around a young girl that becomes trapped in the world of the spirits and must find her way out of this world. The tale as well as the animation is superb and reviews of this anime are all thumbs up.

If you have never seen a full anime movie, you do not know what you are missing. The most common form of anime is known for exaggerating certain aspects of the physical appearance. Huge eyes, very long legs and arms and tall hair are the most common. The subject of the movie may have speech bubbles that are shaped strangely.

Anime can be either drawn by hand or it can be generated by a computer. Today computer anime is much more common especially for the full anime movies. Not only is anime used for movies but it is also used for video, commercials and even television – especially series of shows.

There are many aspects that should alert you to the fact that you are watching anime if you are unaware of the fact. But the main thing you should do is sit back, relax and watch your first full anime movie. Who knows? You may become hooked on them.

Great Classic Movies of the 1970s

For some, a look back at the classic movies of the 70s means a look back at corny films. For most of us, these movies are nostalgic gems that helped shape how we grew up, and shaped the memories we have of that time.

The 1970’s offer up an incredible variety of classic movies due to the less stringent cinematic protocols of the 60’s. Everything from language, sexuality and violence became more widespread and gave rise to a new breed of directors and experimental film-makers known as “Movie Brats” at that time.

Groundbreaking Cinema

From American Graffiti (1973) – a long held American classic directed by George Lucas and starring American icons Ron Howard and Richard Dreyfuss to the controversial but always fun Amityville Horror (1979) directed by Stuart Rosenberg and starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder. These films gave us insight into both the teenage mind, and the insane.

The groundbreaking “Badlands” (1973) directed by Terrence Malik starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek is about a right to life killing spree that occurred in the 1950’s. A teenage girl and her boyfriend, in his 20’s, slaughtered her whole family as well as several others in the Dakota “Badlands.”

Special Effects Explosion

Both Jaws and Star Wars left their marks in the early to mid ’70’s and made themselves known with audiences bringing in enormous amounts of money for both Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, respectively. Both were record breaking grossing movies and continue to survive in the industry today with spin offs, sequels and prequels.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and The China Syndrome (1979) both had the public discussing topics that had not been, up to that point, easily or comfortably discussed. The possibility of aliens contacting Earthlings in Close Encounters of the Third Kind (directed by Steven Spielberg) hit close to home and many of us found ourselves building Devil’s Tower out of our mashed potatoes.

The China Syndrome (directed by James Bridges) brought home the thought that yes, things can go incorrect with nuclear power plants if we’re not careful. This film was nominated for four Oscars, and is one of the classic movies of the 70s.

Human Lives in the Balance

A Clockwork Orange (1971), another one of the classic movies of the 70s, directed by Stanley Kubrick starring Malcolm McDowell, is a disturbing and very memorable piece involving a supposedly reformed convict in futuristic Britain. Supposedly being the operative word, of course, as not everything always goes to plot.

On a lighter note, Paper Moon (1973) directed by Peter Bogdanovich and starring father and daughter team Ryan and Tatum O’Neal. Tatum won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in a Supporting Role for her role as Addie Loggins. The film went on to win several more awards including the Oscar for that year.

Movie Tunes that Stick in Our Brain

Rocky (1976), directed by John G. Avildsen, started the Rocky Era that continues to exist today. Who can forget Sylvester Stallone in this exciting movie about human fortitude and ambition? Who hasn’t run up a set of steps and sung the tune from Rocky?

Deliverance (1972), directed by John Boorman starring John Voigt and Burt Reynolds is a memorable film for anyone who’s had the opportunity to view it. More than just the catchy banjo tune, this movie place Americans on edge and made them reckon twice about canoeing down rivers and hiking into the unknown.

The classic movies of the 70s are among the best around. They ushered in a new era of freedom and creativity so much so that we can still delight in them today.

I Want to Download Movies and Watch Them

I want to download movies and watch them, so I chose to go to the internet and looked for those websites that not only let you stream movies but let you save them to your desktop as well. You can do it too, since it only takes a few steps and is relatively simple.

Once you log on to the internet, everything else can be done through search and click with your mouse. Primarily you might need to download certain types of software that will allow you to download online videos that are available for streaming on the internet.

It is very vital to note that streaming videos online is different from when you download them, so do not be confused. When you stream videos you merely watch them on the internet through your online internet browser. Once you log out of the internet you can’t watch them anymore until you log back in. On the other hand, when you download the video, you save the video as a media file into your computer’s hard drive, allowing you to watch these videos offline and as if they were just a media file. This is why I want to download movies and watch them offline instead.

So once you have bought the software and have installed it, you can go to the website where the videos you want to download are available for online streaming. Just right click on the video screen and you will get to option to download that video. Let the download run and once it is completed you will find the file on your hard drive and you have it.

Jaws (Movie Review)

Steven Spielberg’s breakout film, Jaws is the quintessential summer blockbuster, generating all the horror, thrills, suspense, and special effects you would expect from such a film. Not excessively violent or gruesome like traditional horror films, Jaws nonetheless manages to make an icy frost in every viewer’s veins. Based on the right tale of a fantastic white shark which terrorized the shores of New Jersey in the summer of 1916, Jaws is an ingenious adaptation of Peter Benchley’s best-selling novel inspired by the incident. Jaws tells the tale of man’s eternal struggle against nature, a tale so compelling it captures the imagination of every generation who hears it – from 1916 to 1975 to the present day…

Jaws takes place in the small New England beach resort of Amity Island, the perfect summer getaway for Northeastern tourists. But this Normal Rockwell community paradise is about to be turned upside down. Late one night, a young couple decides to go swimming. But when the woman’s mangled body is washed ashore the next morning, it’s clear to local authorities that she isn’t a typical drowning victim. The medical examiner informs Police Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) that the woman could have been the victim of a shark attack, but Amity Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) refuses to speculate, fearing that public knowledge of a shark attack would kill the local economy.

When another shark attacks occurs, this time is broad daylight, the incident draws shark expert Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) to the area. Working with Chief Brody, Hooper postulates that a fantastic white shark is responsible for the attacks, and the swimming population is in fantastic danger. Meanwhile, a shark hunter named Quint offers to find and kill the shark for $10,000, but Mayor Vaughn believes that price is too high. More and more beach combers will have to be slaughtered before he’ll agree to acknowledge the seriousness of the problem, and when the authorities finally choose to go after the fantastic white, the really danger is only beginning…

With brilliant direction and state-of-the-art special effects (satisfactory even by today’s standards), Jaws is a right edge-of-your-seat thriller wrought with suspense. The unknown is masterfully woven throughout the movie with a crescendo effect that keeps the audience guessing until the end. Like any excellent tale, the shark is never shown in the opening scenes. Instead, the movie starts with an attack in near darkness. The shark is alluded to… Even when someone is attacked in daylight, the audience is only privy to an exposed fin and the blood of the victim as it spreads across the water. This approach effectively combines dread of the unknown with the already present dread of the shark to make a chilling atmosphere for movie goers. Is it any wonder then that Jaws was a blockbuster hit?

It’s this high level of suspense that I like most about Jaws. Like a fine murder novel, the scenes draw the audience into the setting, forcing you to identify with the characters. In due time, you start to dread for your own life. After watching Jaws, you may not swim at the beach ever again… And any movie that can have that type of effect must be excellent! That’s why Jaws ranks as a certain must-see film…

How to Cut Your Monthly Cable TV Bill – Drastically!

The Roku Netflix HD player has arrived!

If you have a like/despise relationship with your cable TV provider, or your DVD movie rental company, you’ll want to read on.

Roku, a relatively small electronics company, has produced a box called the Roku Player, a small console (about the size of a modem) that can stream movies, TV shows, and now – baseball games – through the internet and on to your TV screen, within seconds of ordering, all done digitally.

This means that if you subscribe to Netflix (under $10 a month with access to thousands of movie titles and TV shows) or Amazon Video on Demand (from $3.99 per title), you can now access your selections digitally, without waiting for your DVDs to arrive by mail or driving out to the nearest rental store to “fetch your entertainment”.

With thousands of movie and TV show titles available, you may never need to scroll through your cable TV channels again, hoping to find a movie you like at a time when it’s convenient for you to watch. The interface is made available through your computer monitor, you point and click, order your selection, and within minutes, you can be watching that movie you’ve been waiting to see for months.

The Roku Netflix player is quick and simple to set up (10 minutes or less), has high definition image quality, a remote control to help switch channels without the need to point it directly at the box, wireless capability, and at a price point of approximately $100 – depending on the model you prefer – the Roku Netflix player is one powerful piece of electronics, small enough to go unnoticed on your side table, but powerful enough to be a threat to your cable TV channel provider’s monthly revenue.
